why dont you try the supermarket insurances…sainsburys, tescos…they seem to have better deals than most.

try quinn.com
Yes, I used Quinn.com, based in Ireland although they have British offices.
They were the cheapest I could find at the time (on confused.com), but when I bought my new car (a Suzuki Swift), it was not on their database so I switched to Budget.
Quinns are cheap for younger drivers, I would try http://www.confused.com if i was you. They will save you a load of ringing around.
It’s difficult to recommend a company as i suppose we all have our own opinion. I’m with Tesco’s at the moment as i got a good deal with them and cashback after searching using http://www.moneysupermarket.com/motor/ Make sure you check what is and what isnt covered, you can vary the voluntary excess you pay which will alter the cost of the premium and you can remove hire car and legal insurance etc from some policies which will make it cheaper. Alot of websites will offer an introductory rate and as long as you make sure you shop around for your second year (when the price goes up) this can be a good idea. Age is in your husbands favour as the people most penalised are those under 25 and women. I had some lessons in my dads car before having proper lesson and found it helped alot. Just be careful he doesnt pick up any bad habits from the person letting him use their car before having proper lessons
Good luck.
Try Confused.com they give you arange of insurances to chose from.
when driving on a provisional licence, insurer rates are more expensive because you are not qualified. however, as the mileage being done should be lower, there are discounts to be had by restricting mileage.
watch out – once he passes his test, he will still be deemed an “inexperienced” driver until full licence is held for over 12 months. thereafter the premiums will become cheaper.
personal opinion – avoid Quinn.
supermarkets, confused etc may help, but they work on the lowest common demoninator so since your position is slightly unusual they may not be the best bet. also with these people it is very much “buyer beware” and there may be excesses or conditions which are not apparent when selecting a provider.
pick up the phone to a local independent broker and ask for a recommendation. helpful and not as out-dated as big budget TV advertisers would have you believe.
Try Swiftcover.com. Its all online, no phone calls etc and I have yet to find a cheaper quote! I am in my third year with then, no problems whatsoever!
A couple of things. The best advice is to try your local insurance broker as many direct companies only want experienced drivers. You also get the advantage of free professional advice and if you have any queries you can always pop in to see them!
Avoid Quinn like the plague – read their insurance policy to find out why – it is much worse than others available.
Make sure that his mates have extended their insurance policy to allow him to drive before he goes out in their cars – see the certificate of insurance it should either have his name on it or ‘any person driving with the policyholder’s permission or with their consent’ – this cover is not found very often these days as it is relatively expensive and people want cheap policies (until they claim that is!)
With regards to the insurance on the vehicle – your husband will have an accidental damage excess of probably £300 – £400 if he buys comprehensive cover so if the vehicle is not worth very much third party fire and theft may be a better option – again any broker worth his salt will provide quotes on both options (sometimes comprehensive cover on an old vehicle with a high excess is cheaper than TPF&T cover and at least you get the windscreen covered!)
firstly i would check out http://www.confused.com this website searches for the cheapest quote from all insurers that will insure you and you only have to enter your details once it will save you no end of time i assure you on your second point about the different types of insurance
any driver – means exactly that anyone can drive the vehicle as long as they hold a current licence for that class of vehicle usually has to be a fully comprehensive policy (most expensive) and if there are only two other drivers that can sit with him a waste of money
named driver- this means that you can nominate one other person to drive the car other than your husband either brother in law or m8 or if you find a good company maybe both i would absoloutely recommend this at minimum as if your husband god forbid took ill or got into difficulty whilst driving the supervising driver will have to take charge of the vehicle otherwise they are stuck where they are
third party – this is the lowest and cheapest level of cover it also offers the basic minimum cover allowed by english law all that is insured is whatever your car hits for example another car or person or persons property your vehicle would not be repaired and you would be left with the repair bill for your car if it is written off in other words it would cost more to repair than your car is worth in the insurers opinion you lose everything
third party fire and theft – this offers a bit more cover but not much same cover as above regarding third party plus if your vehicle is stolen or set on fire you would receive a payout of the insurances companys estimated value of your vehicle before it was stolen
comprehensive- the best level of cover on offer and the one i would recommend this means no matter what your car hits it will be repaired and so will your vehicle too
it is also worth considering driver’s legal protection most company’s offer this now which offer’s you protection should anyone try to make a claim against you in court a solicitor would be appointed on your behalf to fight your case an extra charge would apply to your premium but well worth it
some company’s are offering breakdown cover as well this is also worth considering as you never know when you may need it again an extra charge applies but at least you have peace of mind
it is also worth noting that any supervising driver that sits with your husband must be at least 21 years old and have held and still hold a full licence for that catergory of vehicle for three years
where do you live iam an approved driving instructor and it would be a pleasure to teach your husband i cover the derbyshire, yorkshire and nottinghamshire areas if you live anywhere near there please feel free to contact me and in either case i wish your husband the very best of luck and please let us know how you get on please check out the following websites for loads of information and tips on learning to drive
